C. LGBTQIA+ CIVIL AND HUMAN RIGHTS
We are committed to equal civil and human rights for people of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions and demand the following:
- National nondiscrimination legislation that is inclusive of both sexual orientation and gender identity, as well as gender expression and sex characteristics to be inclusive of queer and intersex persons.
- Single-payer healthcare that is inclusive of LGBTQIA+ persons: gender confirmation treatment and surgery, LGBTQIA-specific eldercare, and STI prevention.
Timely generic drug availability for HIV/AIDS treatment and prevention.
Banning so-called conversion therapy and intersex genital mutilation.
- The right of same-sex couples co-parent, become foster parents, or jointly adopt children under the same standards and requirements as those applied to heterosexual couples.
- Facilitated government support for obtaining correct government identification—including a nonbinary gender option—and mandated collection of LGBTQIA+ data in the census and other government research.
- Foreign policy that stands up to human rights abuses worldwide to hold countries accountable for LGBTQIA+ discrimination—foremost in countries with criminalization laws and capital punishment.
- Awareness that LGBTQIA+ issues are intersectional to most policy proposals, and that LGBTQIA+ persons of color are statistically even more at-risk for systemic oppression.
Addressing police brutality means sensitivity training.
Addressing housing as a human right means providing shelters for LGBTQIA+ homeless youth and adults as well as lowering the costs of eldercare housing.
